Wherever I go I like to have all my art materials in one place encase I need to jot down an idea, or for when I get that creative burst.

IMG_20140307_165428

So, when I found this old case I knew exactly what I would do with it. I made myself a personal art kit for when I go out and about. I keep this case in my car and it goes everywhere with me. I also have a smaller kit for when I travel overseas. This kit is much lighter so I can collect art materials along the way

Letters from the Border – Jenny Davis

“I chose to be part of this project in 2008 because I believe in the power of art to move… to encourage change ‘This’ project demonstrates ‘The Power of Art’ to pass on important concerns about our fragile ecological state whilst giving examples of how we can recycle and reuse in creative ways”

IMGP6354

Letters from the Border is part of series Jenny has been working on for years. This piece is a collage of images taken from her collection. It includes 2003 emails she received from a US soldier when he was on the border in Kuwait, waiting to invade Iraq. He described the constant multiple bombings, the daily life of his troops and photos of what he saw around him.

IMGP6320

One photo, the little flower, represented the hope in the dusty dry dessert. After several months of correspondence, Jenny never heard from him again and has been unable to locate him.

Slices in Time. Fragility. Jenny Davis.
In creating this artwork I used various processes. By physically dismantling objects and clothing I then wax the pieces. Some time later I reassemble the items and stage them into a still life composition in the studio.

Warm Hot Collage – Lafayette Pink

Warm Collage – Lafayette Pink

( Please see all my other collages from “30 Days of Collage” at  Cottontail Art Design and Vintage)

Thinking of my daughter today, living in Paris France. Last time I was there I experienced my first ever white Xmas. It snowed and snowed. We went to Galleries Lafayette but didn’t buy anything as it just too expensive but I did grab samples, advertising papers and junk for my art.

The colours that Winter were hot pinks with oranges. In this collage I wanted to capture the feeling of extravagance and contemporary Paris.

I painted the background of the canvas board with warm acrylic paint in yellow ochre , next , paper scraps from Galleries Lafayette in gold flourish, then orange and red velvet fabrics, squares of hand painted paper in hot pink, orange piece of French packaging and a little snow flake in hot pink created with a little punch I bought in Asnieres. Topped off with a little perfume bottle cut-out from Lafayette advertising. I also added some gold glitter paint in areas for sparkle.

Fresh from the Studio – Sensor Ship

Fresh from the Studio

Sensor Ship 2 & Sensor Ship

Surface quality is very important to me and my paintings consist of many layers of paint and line making. During my process I continuously scrape, wipe and sand back layers until only a trace remains of my previous mark making.

Sensor Ship 2

Acrylic on Canvas
120 x 60cm

In both paintings you can see little tears and pockets of bright grainy colour pushing through to the top layers. I wanted the ghosts of my past marks and texture to sit just below the surface, still and silent. Waiting to be discovered.

Bunch of Dirty Books. Photography.

Saturday, June 1st, 2013

Sometimes my photography is spontaneous and unrehearsed. Sometimes I like to stage little dioramas and scenes . I like to evoke strange stories with my photography and will put myself in uncomfortable spaces to achieve this. I have a wonderful space I found in Paris, I call the dungeon. I can spend hours down there waiting for something to take off.

Some of my photography for sale  Outlook8studio Gallery – Outlook8Studio

I use beautiful archival Kodak ENDURA Metallic paper which has a glossy finish and metallic appearance. I use it because it creates images with visual interest, richness and depth and I’m unable to achieve this quality with other papers.

Does life get in the way of your creating?

IMGP2238

Isn’t it amazing how life sometimes gets in the way of doing what u really want to do?

I remember writing this email to a friend some time ago, about one of those days…

Today, when I woke up I decided I was going to do creative stuff all day in the studio.

Instead…
The Postie came and I had to ring electric company to re-assess my payment plan. 1-2 hours later they still needed to ring me back.

Made an appointment for my car service so it coincided with breast screen appointment.

Rang the house people who keep taking out double payment each fornight. This was the 3rd time they got it wrong.

Made an appointment with council for mowing and cutting fallen tree branches.

Went to “Switch” website site to see if I can get electricity cheaper. Decided too complicated.

Cleaned cat poop from back porch.
Clean cat poop from shoes.
Cleaned cat trays.
Put out rubbish.

On the way to the studio,

IMGP0014

I cleaned the car mats that had mud on them.

STUD 1

In the studio I gessoed 7 small canvases twice.

I walked up and down the driveway 10 times, fast, for exercise.

Layed down on lounge chair outside for 20 mins. with cat to get the required amount of vit. D for the day and to keep the doctor happy.

IMGP4574

Stood on slanty hill and pulled up big tarp to collect twigs to bring in with trolley. Did 4 loads of wood so I didn’t have to do it later.

IMGP0060Cat Lady Artist

Talked to myself, very loudly and even discussed what I was doing more than I should have.

Re- did a written section about shipping on 176 pieces of my art online at my website.

Dreamt about:
Being a well-known artist

work.285064.9.paperpc,441x415,w,ffffff.v4

Having pretty things around me , like artist, Margaret Olly

margaret-olley-home-772006

Piles of new canvass’

Being a healthy person like in my 30’s

Having a full-time gardener for wood. A bringer-inner-a and chopper of wood, a cook and…

Chocolate

Chocolate

choco04

Now, because it’s getting darker ( I have bad lighting inside to create) I will start the fire, feed the cats, find food for dinner, check telly programs, Face book, Ebay and Etsy for possible sales, watch something on telly, maybe online, then take all the new pills I have too. Then go to bed and sleep on the electric blanket with the cat.

Oh, I did eat breakfast ,forgot lunch, but had late afternoon snack dry biscuits and hommus.

Of course if someone asks the usual question…

What did you do today?

I will probably say the usual… Nothing really

Tomorrow I WILL do what I want to do, stuff life!!! 🙂

Does this sound familiar to you?
